Currenly seeking two research assistants!

We are seeking two research assistants for two separate projects.  Each assistant is about 10 hours per week.  Candidates can apply for one or both projects, both is preferred.

Research Assistants are needed to support two year-long research projects on Islamic Education in America.  Ideal candidates have experiences teaching in K-12 settings and / or conducting education research in K-12 environments.  Projects are led by either Dr. Rehenuma Asmi or Dr. Amaarah DeCuir.  Students welcome, 10-20 hours weekly, one position includes in-person research in Maryland, the other is fully virtual. 

Research Assistant – A research assistant (RA) who is trained in education research methods or one with prior experiences teaching in a K-12 setting will be a valuable asset to the success of the research team.  This is a part-time position, seeking to hire a graduate student or someone seeking a part-time education research opportunity.
 
Desired skills for both postings:

• The ability to commit to lengthy, complex projects

"Islamic School Research Project"
The RA will be tasked with both on-site responsibilities at fixed times (school hours) for research visits in Columbia, Maryland and flexible schedule of online responsibilities:
  • Managing all research equipment
  • Collecting consent forms and research approval paperwork for participants
  • Videotaping professional development and classroom observations for future research use
  • Co-facilitating professional development and classroom observations using research protocol developed by CICW lead researchers
  • Conduct interviews with students, teachers, and leaders
The online responsibilities are proposed as follows:
  • Managing communication between research site and CICW research team
  • Managing consent forms and research approval paperwork for participants
  • Digital storage of all research data
  • Developing participant handouts and slides for Prophetic Pedagogy professional development
  • Conducting literature reviews of Prophetic Pedagogy, organizational learning, Muslim identity development, teacher and leader development, organizational culture, student achievement, student engagement, and action research
  • Participation in research team meetings to develop protocols and instruments, design professional development sessions, and conduct data analysis
  • Writing executive reports to synthesize data and describe implications of results
  • Co-authoring opportunities will be available
  • Other research supports will be identified during the project
Based on the above work responsibilities, we propose a research assistant for 10 hours per week for the duration of the research project. 

"Islamic School Alumni Research"
The RA will be tasked with only flexible schedule of online responsibilities as follows:
  • Managing communication between research sites and CICW research team
  • Managing communication between research consultants, taking detailed notes in research team meetings
  • Managing consent forms and research approval paperwork for survey and focus group participants
  • Digital storage of all research data
  • Conducting literature reviews of Muslim identity development, life outcomes, Islamic schools, surveys and focus group methods
  • Participation in research team meetings to develop protocols and instruments and conduct data analysis
  • Co-authoring opportunities will be available
  • Other research supports will be identified during the project
Based on the above work responsibilities, we propose a research assistant for 10 hours per week for the duration of the research project. 
 
The proposed salary for a Research Assistant is $16.69 an hour. Depending on the role and factors like the candidate’s experience level, education requirements and the job location, pay can vary.
