Understanding Islam in the Contemporary World (January 2-11, 2023)
Introduction
The CICW’s Winter Student Institute, “Understanding Islam in the Contemporary World,” is an undergraduate students’ program that provides foundational Islamic studies to students of diverse academic backgrounds.
Our pedagogy combines traditional Islamic learning with contemporary approaches and methods in Islamic studies. We question the West-centric assumptions and epistemologies and bring Islamic epistemologies and approaches to pedagogy, education, and thought into the conversation.
In addition to academic sessions and lectures, the WSI includes discussions and activities related to students' well-being and applying lessons learned. This program is a safe and sacred space to share feelings in a non-judgmental manner that allows the students to continue to grow.
