Muhammad Nejatullah Siddiqi
Professor Muhammad Nejatullah Siddiqi (1931 - November 2022) was a pioneering thinker and developer of the concept of Islamic Economics, Banking, and Finance in the modern age. He received the prestigious King Faisal International Prize for service to Islamic Studies in 1982. He also received the American Finance House Award in 1993 and the Shah Waliullah Award in 2003 in New Delhi for his contributions to Islamic Economics. In 2010, he was appointed an Emeritus Professor of Management Studies at the Aligarh Muslim University in India.
Besides his contributions to the fields of Islamic Economics, Banking, and Finance, Professor Siddiqi was also an original thinker and scholar in Islamic Thought, Islamic Studies, and Maqasid al-Shariah. He was also the founder of the journal Islamic Thought, published from Aligarh during the 1970s.
This festschrift, published by the Center for Islam in the Contemporary World (CICW) at Shenandoah University, honors Professor Muhammad Nejatullah Siddiqi. It comprises articles by prominent scholars in Islamic Economics, banking, and finance from around the world.
